Welcome to the Old Winery on Faraday Street. Nestled on Napier Hill in the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. The old winery was once a thriving hub of activity operated and owned by McWilliams Wines.
Built after the devasting Napier earthquake on February 3rd, 1931. The old winery was built in 1936 to withstand future seismic activity. Undoubtedly built with a solid structure of steel and concrete to stand the test of time for over 80 years.
“Mataruahou” the traditional Māori name for Napier Hill, essentially a large island surrounded by water until the 1931 earthquake. Renamed by european settlers as Scinde Island in the mid to late 1800s.
